18 Things To Do When You Don't Feel Like Facing The World

This morning I woke up absolutely not wanting to get out of bed. Well no, that’s a bit of a lie. I woke up with my alarm at 6:30am, since we were supposed to take Winchester in to be neutered and get his second round of shots today (poor kitty). Realized I had a headache and congestion, rolled over and went back to sleep. Braydon being the responsible champ he is took Winchester on his own letting me sleep in. Around 8:30 Braydon got home, tried to wake me since we had plans to hit the gym this morning. I’m pretty sure I might told him to fuck off and went back to sleep. When he came home after the gym to change for his Welding practice he left me a glass of water by the bed, a text wishing me to feel better. Around noon I finally woke up, made a cup of tea, some toast and tried to get some work done. The key word being ‘tried’.

I’m not going to lie, between blowing my nose and massaging my temples, the most work I got done was catching up on the Graham Norton show and leveling up all my Dragons on Rise of Berk. That’s when I decided that if I’m going to get ahead in my school work today I have to leave the house. I packed up my textbooks, hunted down my laptop case, made sure I had headphones and all the materials I needed. And head off to my favourite Starbucks for a few hours. I may have stopped in London drugs to pick up a little something something to help with my sinuses, whatever. A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do to get some work done. Thankfully I managed to finish writing an essay all about garbage (really) in under two hours. So since I’m a little high on medication, and high off of finishing an garbage essays that may as well be garbage I thought I’d share a few things to do when you feel like garbage. And for all I know this could all be complete and utter, well garbage.

Make something to eat, or order some delivery that you’ve been craving for ages. Food affects your mood. And if you’re in a mood, changes are your hungry too. Have something to eat. Eat something that makes you feel like royalty or something that comforts the shit out of you.

Tidy up and do the dishes. There is something therapeutic about doing the dishes. Sure cleaning is literally the last thing you want to do. But being surrounded by dishes, clutter and garbage will only make you feel a whole lot worst. Bonus if you have someone around to help you, just try not to get too annoyed when they don’t do it the way you like.

Make a cup of tea. I’m a huge Davids Tea fan. Partly because the branding is perfect, but mainly because they make my favourite tea, Glitter & Gold. Glitter & Gold is a mash up and black tea and cinnamon that has little gold stars in it which shimmers when brewed. The only way I can describe the taste of Glitter & Gold is that it tastes like Christmas.

Watch your favourite movie, or TV Show. Or rent a movie you've been wanting to see.

Pick some music, turn it up loud and dance. I really like the Radio 1 playlist from BCC on Spotify.

Plan a holiday gateway. I've been planning a road trip across the country on and off for a few months. For me, planning this trip is something nice I can do that still feels productive for when I am feeling frustrated with work or homework. Now I just need to save up enough money to make the trip a reality.

Play some games. Be it Mario Kart, Angry Birds, Fallout or whatever the lastest gaming thing is. Set a timer for however long and just game out. Allow yourself to play without feeling guilty.

Hug is out. Be it your partner, best friend, your pet, a pillow or teddy bear. Just hug it out.

Put on your favourite outfit. Put on something that makes you feel like a bad ass warrior ready to take on the world and beat some serious ass.

Go window shopping. Shopping with the intent of not actually purchasing anything is an interesting experience to say the least. When you're in a store you stop paying attention to the items and more attention to what everyone around you is doing.

Pizza. Because everyone loves pizza and its mega delicious.

Read a Book. For whatever reason people always are impressed whenever you admit to reading in your free time. Even if its a trashy romance novel, they don't need to know the details.

Pamper yourself. Draw up a bubble bath, light some candles, put on a face mask and have a nice long soak.

Give yourself a manicure. There just something that feels nice about having clean, perfectly shaped finger nails. I'm a huge fan of clear matte nails, that way when they start to chip no one can tell.

Get out of the house. Go grab a coffee or in the weather permits go for a walk. Getting out of the house and getting some fresh air will lift your spirits.

Harry Potter. So this only works if you like Harry Potter. I mean, I'm writing this while wearing a Slytherin t-shirt and golden snitch necklace, with Goblet of Fire playing on my TV so yeah. Naturally I'm going to suggest Harry Potter to make you feel better.

Go for a drive. Sometimes, especially when I’m in a particularly nasty mood, I’ll pop in a CD and go for a drive with no destination in mind. Because I'm doing something I feel less useless, and it literally takes no energy to do. Just drive. I tend to have conversations with myself while driving. Work through whatever bothering me so by the time I come home I feel hell better, and in some cases have a game plan on how to tackle whatever is bothering me.

Call someone. Call a friend, call your parent, call someone you can rant to. Nothing feels better then talking about what is making you upset.
